Katherine McIntyre’s Tempting Ballad #NewRelease

Happy Hump Day, pretties 😘 It’s finally raining here in Toronto – yay!  Here’s hoping all that thunder and lightning will give us some relief from these 40+ degree days. My hair and snowflake disposition don’t fare well in that kind of humidity. But since it is raining, let’s talk books!

I have a hot new release from Katherine McIntyre to tell you all about. Tempting Ballad is book #4 in her Discord’s Desire series, and it’s currently on sale over at Evernight Publishing. Have a look…

One hot night together was all Renn and Leo shared, and neither expected to see the other again.

However, when Leo Kincaid shows up after one of their gigs on the other side of the country, Renn’s intrigued. When Leo produces information on Renn’s missing sister, he’s ensnared. Leo needs an alliance from an Unseelie family, a rival to those who kidnapped Renn’s sister. It’s enough dangled bait to ditch the band, and the sparks between them are immediate and incendiary.

On their own, they don’t stand a chance of retrieving his sister, but luckily for him, his bandmates aren’t the giving up sort. Together with the Discord’s Desire crew, they prepare for a fight against one of the most dangerous Unseelie families. However, spending so much time around Leo Kincaid is dangerous. Renn finds himself wanting something more, which breaks the pact he made long ago: never get attached.

Renn slipped around to the side, his shoulders heaving, and he stopped still.

Leo Kincaid leaned against the brick wall, his silhouette sharpened by the inkspill shadows. From where Renn stood, he got a perfect view of the prominent chin, the slightly crooked nose, and the sensual lips bordering on cruel. He’d slipped out of his suit jacket and rolled his sleeves to the elbow, revealing corded forearms and the tendrils of a tattoo.

Renn sauntered toward him, his entire body lighting up in the presence of this man. Kincaid didn’t even have any sex mojo like him or Ky, so why his body reacted like this was pure mystery.

Kincaid lifted a cigarette to his lips, and Renn exhaled loud enough to shatter the quiet between them. Those spotlight eyes turned his way, and his mouth dried at the sheer power behind the man’s presence.

“Ditch the cigarette,” Renn said, hooking his thumbs through the belt loops of his patched-up leather pants. His Doc Martens scuffed the asphalt as he closed the distance between them.

Kincaid’s lips pursed, amusement gleaming in those eyes. “Oh yeah? Any reason I’d give a damn about, or do you just feel like being bossy?” His deep bass rumbled through the air, and Renn sucked his lower lip through his teeth. He’d murder someone to hear that voice whisper dirty things in his ear.

Renn reached out and grabbed him by the lapels of his button-down. “Yeah, because I don’t want to fucking taste an ash tray when I make out with you.” This close he caught the scent of rosewood and bourbon, a blend he hadn’t been able to replicate since their time in Vegas. If he hadn’t been turned on before, his erection could be used as a battering ram now. And he hadn’t even tasted the guy yet.

Before Renn could lunge in for the kill, Kincaid’s fingers wrapped around his neck and those hungry lips descended. The firm grip, how the man didn’t just kiss, he devoured—Renn couldn’t get enough. He gasped into Kincaid’s mouth, sinking into the kiss as he tasted the sweetness of bourbon on his tongue. Most of the time when he dove into his post-concert hook-ups, Renn took the lead, but with Kincaid, he might as well try to rein in a tsunami.

If he were honest, he preferred it. Renn melted into the man’s grip, the pinch at his nape hard enough to bruise. He leaned against him, the feel of Kincaid’s rock-hard body enough to rev his motor. His fingers slipped to the buttons of Kincaid’s crisp black shirt. The man grabbed his wrist, stopping him still with an iron grip Renn had sorely missed. A grin tugged at Renn’s lips even as he continued kissing him. At any moment, his bandmates might stroll out and catch them together and he knew for a fact they’d be pissed.

Renn didn’t care.

Moving on from the disappointment of Wolf not stopping me, I get comfortable. I get out of my jeans and sneakers, loosen the knot in Wolf’s t-shirt, and bundle my hair on my head in a messy bun. My hangover has completely left me and I decide to have a glass of wine and relax. A knock at my door has me putting down the glass and moving toward it. Storm sent a message earlier, saying she would be stopping by later to check on me. I don’t check the peephole but fling the door open, expecting to find her on the other side. Instead, Wolf stands there staring at me. His gaze scans me from top to toe before a mask of rage covers his face. He propels me back into the apartment, shutting the door behind him with the heel of his boot before he crowds me against the wall.

“Do you always answer the door half fucking naked?”

His voice is a low growl that causes goosebumps to pop up along my arms. “Huh?”

I know what he’s asking, but having him this close to me has fried my brain.

“Or were you expecting someone else?” He stares deep into my eyes as he waits for an answer.

“Who do you think I would be expecting?” Goading him probably isn’t the best idea, but at this moment, it’s all I have.

“Justice? Or perhaps whoever taught you how to ride on a bike?”

A burst of laughter leaves me. When it comes to this man, I rarely react the way I’m supposed to.

“Justice? Sure, he’s cute and all, but he just turned eighteen. That wouldn’t work for me. As for the riding, he won’t be coming around again.”

“So, you simply walk around half-naked and open the door without even checking first?”

Staring up at him, I have no answer. He steps closer and stands against me. His erection presses into my stomach and a sound I don’t even recognize leaves me. I sound wanton and needy.

Before I can comprehend what’s happening, Wolf crashes his mouth down on mine. His kiss isn’t soft. He runs his tongue along the seam of my lips before nipping at my bottom lip, prompting me to gasp. The moment my mouth opens, his tongue invades inside. His kiss overwhelms and dominates me, triggering my body to melt into him.

His hands glide down my back to grip my ass as he lifts me into the air. Wrapping my legs around him, I pull him closer to me. He grinds his considerable hard-on against my pussy and I moan out loud again. Not having had sex in over three years has clearly turned me into a wanton slut. The feel of his hands, lips, and erection drives me to the brink of insanity. With his body pressing me firmly against the wall, his hands are free to roam over my body.

His left hand slips beneath the hem of my t-shirt and works its way up to my breast. Then he holds my breast before giving it a slight squeeze. The roughness of his hand adds to the sensations he’s creating. Taking my nipple between two of his fingers, he pinches it while grinding his erection against my center. My orgasm takes me by surprise and I whimper into his mouth. Never have I come so quickly for a man, especially with him barely having touched me. Wolf presses his face into my neck, panting heavily while I come down from my high.

“Shit.” He draws in another deep breath. “I didn’t mean to do that. I only want to talk to you.”

Nodding is the only reply I have for him. All capacity to form words and sentences has fled me. Slowly, he lowers me to my feet, but he doesn’t let go. Instead, he tilts my head back and kisses me again. This kiss is soft and exploratory and unrushed. My hands move of their own volition, around his neck and twisting into his hair as he slowly continues to seduce my mouth.

“I’m going to leave before this goes any further, but I want to get to know you. I want to spend time with you. Go out with me tomorrow?”

“I can’t.” My reply has a scowl instantly appearing on his face. Touching my lips to his, I explain, “I’m on shift tomorrow.”

“Fuck that. I’ll sort that out as long as you give me a chance.”

He looks so hopeful as he waits for me to answer. After I nod my agreement, he kisses me before he pulls away.

“I’ll pick you up at six. You should wear something comfortable.”

He grabs my phone and programs his number in it before calling himself. He lightly kisses my forehead before returning to his motorcycle, leaving me behind wanting more.

I loved every second of reading this book. I CANNOT wait to see what’s next!

Welcome to Summer 2020!

Welcome to Summer 2020!

Today’s the first day of summer. Not sure how that’s possible when it was just Christmas a few weeks ago. Then again, March did last for about a year-and-a-half, so…

We’ve already had our first heat advisories that have sent me clamouring for my air-conditioned fortress of solitude. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the sunshine. It’s just not always that kind to my delicate (read: pasty) complexion. Chances are, if you’re looking for me over the next few months, I’ll be tucked away here at home while everyone else enjoys the beach and poolside margaritas. Whatever. I have plenty of wine and there are fewer bugs inside 🙂

It’s probably for the best I don’t have any concrete holiday plans since we’re still under a state of emergency. That and my COVID-hair is a complete rat’s nest. And my feet do not deserve to wear pretty things. But the province is slowly starting to open up, region by region, so there’s a chance I might become a presentable human being before autumn arrives. Yay!

To be honest, I’m perfectly content with the slow pace at which we’re re-opening. My anxiety would be through the roof with anything else. Ontario reported a mere 161 new COVID-19 cases today, the lowest since March 28. So there’s definitely something to be said for staying safe, and physical distancing.

But, damn, I want to see my mom & dad. And I really miss my friends.

In the meantime, I’ve started outlining a hot new story idea complete with some of my favourite and trope-iest of tropes (Hello, grumpy tough guy and chipper, romantic optimist. How would you like to be thrown together under unusual circumstances and go on the run? And, what’s that – only one bed, you say? Oh, now that is a complete shame.)

I hope to spill some juicy details soon!

What about you – how are you all doing?

I’m Still Here (I think – what day is this, again?)

I’m Still Here (I think – what day is this, again?)

Would you look at that.

It’s already June.

2020 is nearly half over.

Jesus. Who needs a drink?

Without planning to, I took a super lengthy hiatus from life as L.D. Blakeley. I wish I could say it because I was off on some Super Sekrit™ exciting adventure. But the boring truth of it is… it just happened. It wasn’t my intention but life sometimes comes at you, and before you know it – blink – months have gone by with nary an update.

Like I need to tell anyone right now about plans going awry.
